Manchester City tore through Southampton yesterday as they continued their push for another Premier League title.
In another David vs Goliath type of battle, City were able to get the best of Southampton on the south coast last night. It was a pretty tight encounter for the majority of the first half but once City were able to get their noses in front, they didn t look back.
Today, we ll be taking a look at a few of our big takeaways from the game.
Haaland is terrifying
Erling Haaland scored a brace, with one of his goals being a bicycle kick, to take his Premier League total to 30 goals for the season. In addition to that, he has scored 44 goals in all competitions. That s the kind of form that is enough to strike fear into the heart of just about anyone, as the Norwegian just continues to go from strength to strength. Keep an eye on him in the weeks ahead as even more records begin to fall.
Saints running out of time
Southampton are now four points adrift of 17th with just eight games to go. There s still time for them to try and turn things around, but it s running out. They ve had a really strong 11-year stay in the top flight of English football but it s pointless to get away from the fact that this season has been poor. They aren t going to give up, and nor should they, but we aren t sure where the points are going to come from.
City = the favourites?
As Arsenal prepare to take on Liverpool this afternoon, it s hard not to see Manchester City as the favourites in this title race. If the Gunners slip up, which could well happen given that they haven t won at Anfield since 2012, City can leapfrog them in a few weeks when they collide. Pep Guardiola knows what it takes to succeed at this level, and we anticipate him to keep that form going strong after their eighth straight win in all competitions.
