Schuster assured of German experience

Bernd Schuster is enthused by the fact that Germany are not lacking in big-game experience despite having the youngest squad at Euro 2012.

The average age of Joachim Low s group is just over 24-and-a-half years, even though they have called upon the services of veterans such as Miroslav Klose.

Many of the squad s youngsters have been a part of the national team set-up since the 2010 World Cup, and the former Real Madrid boss said they must therefore be considered serious contenders for the Euro 2012 crown.

We have many players in key positions who have played together for a long time, but the squad is also filled with young and hungry players, the 52-year-old told Sport-informations-dienst.

The German team also played an excellent qualification campaign in which they were able to build up a lot of confidence.

But one must not forget that a European Championship tournament is more difficult to contest than, say, a World Cup.

When you go to the European Championship, you always have to play against a first-class side.

Germany have been drawn in Group C alongside Netherlands, Denmark and Portugal the latter against whom they kick off their campaign on Saturday.
